Wardieburn Camp, Kuala Lumpur, 20 June. The Royal Ranger Regiment Meet-and-Greet with the Black Hackle Club was held at Wisma Perwira 1 RRD, with an encouraging turnout from Black Hackle Club members as well as active RRD officers, including Commanding Officers from several battalions of the Royal Ranger Regiment. This inaugural event aimed to strengthen the bond between serving officers and retired Ranger Corps officers.
The event began with a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the Ranger Corps, Brigadier General Shamshor bin Jaafar, followed by a reply speech from the Chairman of the Black Hackle Club, Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato’ Nazrul Edgar bin Abdullah. The event also featured the presentation of the book Memoirs – Malaya and Borneo at War, published by the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA), a 562-page volume donated by Captain (Rtd) Mohd Nasir Abdullah.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Royal Ranger Corps welcomed all attendees and was enthusiastic in announcing that Ranger battalions nationwide are encouraged to host similar events in the near future to locate and reconnect with veterans in their respective localities. He also proposed that a BBQ event be held afterward.
The Black Hackle Club, led by Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato’ Nazrul Edgar as Chairman, positively embraced the strong collaboration fostered through such activities. He also expressed hope that more veteran officers from the Royal Ranger Regiment would register and become part of the club or association’s extended family.
As with previous gatherings and activities, attendees were thrilled by the reunion, with many stories shared among those who had not met for a long time. Numerous memories, nostalgic moments, and old stories resurfaced. To commemorate this historic event, a group photo session was also held. Lieutenant General (Rtd) Datuk Effendi, as advisor to the Black Hackle Club, was also present to further enliven the event.
Until we meet again at the next gathering.
